Raising aspirations and boosting confidence

We are proud of setting high standards for our students

Shaftesbury School is a mixed 11-18 school with excellent facilities on the edge of the ancient town of Shaftesbury.  The school benefits from an abundance of outdoor space for PE and games, reflecting its Sports College status.  This is complemented by modern facilities including floodlit all-weather playing pitches, a superbly equipped fitness suite, climbing wall, gymnasium and dance studio.  We are proud of our commercial catering facility with restaurant, and enviable facilities for Art and ICT.  The former school chapel provides an atmospheric and unique venue for the teaching of Drama.

We promote the highest expectations of our students, and encourage each individual to be the best they can be.  At the heart of our school are the values of our Christian Foundation, the ideals of the Olympic movement and the spirit of internationalism.  We encourage all students to take an active role in school life through our House system.  On entry to the school students are assigned to one of four houses, each named after a famous Olympian – Thompson, Redgrave, Owens and Sanderson.  Tutor groups comprise students from years 7 – 11, and older students act as mentors for younger students, encouraging and guiding them.

Our boarding residence at Barton Hill House provides accommodation for over 100 boarders. Many of these students travel to us from all over the world, enriching our learning environment through their diverse cultures, faiths and traditions.
