The History Department is committed to inspiring students to engage with and want to know more about the past. We believe in making learning active and encouraging young people to develop the enquiry skills necessary to reach an informed opinion.

Key Stage Three is thematic;

  • Year 7 : Ordinary Lives
  • Year 8 : Empires and Nations
  • Year 9 : Power, conflict and control

At GCSE we follow the Schools History Project syllabus with Edexcel;

  • Unit 1 : Crime and Punishment through time
  • Unit 2 : Germany 1918-1945
  • Unit 3 : The Impact of War on Britain 1914-c1950
  • Unit 4 : The Swinging Sixties? : Change in British Society 1955-1975

At A level students follow the AQA courses;

  • Unit 1 : Britain 1906-1951
  • Unit 2 : Civil Rights in the USA 1950-1968
  • Unit 3 : Britain 1951-2007
  • Unit 4 : Historical Enquiry (Self designed coursework investigation)

In recent years we have taken students on trips to the First World War battlefields in Ypres, to Corfe Castle, to the London Dungeon and the Empire Museum. Future trips are planned to the Imperial War Museum and to see Hitler on Trial.
