Shaftesbury School Closed due to weather – Friday 30th January

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have been notified by Dorset Council that, due to the Met Office forecasting localised heavy rainfall overnight (Thursday into Friday), all Dorset Council–commissioned school transport will be cancelled tomorrow, Friday 30 January 2026. This applies to every journey to and from school and will significantly reduce pupil numbers by over 40%.

At this time, we are still awaiting confirmation from Wiltshire Council. Their decision regarding school transport will be made tomorrow morning.

As the majority of our staff live outside of the local area and experienced significant difficulties travelling into school during similar conditions earlier this week, we anticipate that we will not have sufficient staff on site to ensure the school can operate and remain complaint with Health and Safety Regulations.

For this reason, the school will be closed to pupils and staff tomorrow, Friday 30 January 2026.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding. The safety and well-being of all members of our school community will always remain our highest priority. Students have access to our online learning platforms of Sparx Maths, SENECA and Oak Academy. GCSE students should use this time to revise and access past papers online and our Key Stage 3 students also have Accelerated Reader books.
