Type: Level 2: Pre-Sixth Pathway
Contact: Mr M Motteram
Pre-Sixth is a Level 2 programme that provides the springboard for students to enter Post 16 education and prepare them to progress towards Level 3 qualifications. Over the course of one academic year, students will enjoy being a member of the Sixth Form at Shaftesbury, while continuing their studies in GCSE English and/or Maths, alongside other Level 2 courses. The programme is designed to prepare learners for Level 3 studies in the form of A Levels and BTECs, or to facilitate their progression to other destinations, such as College or an apprenticeship.
Pre-Sixth students are indistinguishable from their Level 3 peers, and are a hugely valued part of our Sixth Form distinctiveness. They will receive pastoral care from the Head of Sixth Form via their PDE lessons, and a tailored progression support package, that will include application guidance and regular progression meetings.
Students on the Pre-Sixth Pathway will take English and Maths GCSE and The Certificate in Personal Development and Employability (PDE), and also have the opportunity to study the, Level 2 BTEC Certificate in Sport or the Level 2 BTEC Certificate in Media. Students can also supplement their studies with a block of work experience.
This pathway would be ideal for you if:
- you are not yet ready to start a full Level 3 programme
- you need additional time to improve your English and Maths skills
- you want to prepare for employment
GCSE English and GCSE Maths
All students who have not yet achieved a minimum grade 4 in Maths or English Language GCSE will attend lessons to prepare them for retake exams.
