This course allows you to gain an understanding of what it means to work in the public services, with a particular focus on the uniformed public services. It offers the opportunity to develop your leadership skills and understanding of public policy as well as to develop your personal fitness.
Entry requirements and skills needed
You will need at least five GCSEs at grade 4. You also need a good level of physical fitness.
Assessment
The course is assessed mainly through project work, however there will be external assessment of one unit. You therefore need to be organised and good at meeting deadlines.
Students study four units in total, 2 core and 2 optional units. Core units are:
Unit 2: Behaviour & Discipline in the Uniformed Protective Services
Unit 5: Teamwork, Leadership and Communication in Uniformed Protective Services
Progression
This qualification provides a useful grounding for all those considering a career (or voluntary work) in public services, and particularly the uniformed public services, from the armed to the ambulance service, from the police to the fire brigade. The BTEC Extended Certificate carries the same range of UCAS points as an A-level so this qualification can be a valuable step to university study.
